Congratulations to the winners of the

2024 K12 Photo Competition!

This year’s photo competition was a spectacular success, with over 12,000 stunning entries from talented K-12 students nationwide! This event, now in its ninth year, has become a beloved tradition, celebrating the incredible creativity and artistic expression of young photographers.

We are thrilled to announce that we awarded a whopping $20,000 in cash prizes! In each grade level, the 1st place winner received $1,000, the 2nd place winner $500, and the People’s Choice winner—determined by public voting—received $100.

Competition Details

  • Open to students in grades K–12 whether enrolled at K12-powered schools or any other school in the U.S.
    • Parents or guardians of students under the age of 13 must submit entries on behalf of their student(s).
  • All photo entries must be taken by the student during the contest entry period (May 28, 2024–August 26, 2024)
    • Public voting will happen through the Photo Competition landing page throughout the Judging Period (effective 9 AM (ET) on August 27, 2024, through 5 PM (ET) on September 27, 2024). Any individual will be eligible to vote and will be allowed one vote per day during the voting period.
  • There is no limit to the number of photographs a student can enter.
  • AI-generated photos are not eligible.

Voting Deadline

Public voting will happen through the Photo Competition landing page effective 9 AM (ET) on August 27, 2024, through 5 PM (ET) on September 27, 2024. Any individual will be eligible to vote and will be allowed one vote per day during the voting period.

Judging Criteria

Impact and Storytelling (50%)

Judges assess the photo’s ability to captivate and convey a story or emotion. Does it have a clear focal point? Does it evoke feelings or spark curiosity? A compelling photo that engages viewers and tells a story would score high in this category.

Creativity and Composition (25%)

Judges consider artistic elements, including composition, framing, and visual balance. Is the photo well-composed? Does it demonstrate creative use of angles, lines, and perspective?

Technical Proficiency (25%)

Judges evaluate technical aspects such as exposure, focus, and sharpness. Is the photo properly exposed? Are details clear and well-defined? A photograph demonstrating technical proficiency, characterized by good lighting and focus, would receive a high score in this category.
